Trogir is one of the easiest cultural day trips from Split. It has a compact UNESCO-listed old town, waterfront, stone streets, churches, cafes, and a relaxed harbor feeling.
In spring and summer, the boat can be the nicest way to go. Bus line 37 is the practical year-round option. Driving is possible, but traffic and parking can make it less pleasant in high season.
Choose Trogir if you want a historic old town day without a long journey.
Why visit Trogir?
Trogir is small, beautiful, and easy to explore on foot. The old town sits on a small island between the mainland and Čiovo, with stone lanes and a waterfront that feels different from Split.
It is a good day trip if you like old towns, architecture, cafes, short walks, and coastal views.
How to get there
Boat
In the warmer part of the year, a boat connection can be the most enjoyable way to reach Trogir. You avoid road traffic and arrive close to the historic center.
Check the current timetable before planning the day, because boat services can be seasonal.
Bus
Promet Split bus line 37 connects Split, the airport area, and Trogir.
This is the practical option if there is no boat or if you want a cheaper route. In summer, road traffic can slow the journey.
Car
Driving is possible, especially outside peak season. In summer, parking and traffic around Trogir can reduce the advantage of having a car.
If you drive, arrive early.
What to do in Trogir
Good simple plan:
- walk the old town streets
- visit the waterfront
- see the cathedral area
- stop for coffee or lunch
- walk around Kamerlengo Fortress
- cross toward Čiovo for a different view back toward town
Trogir does not need a packed itinerary. Its strength is that you can see a lot by wandering slowly.
How much time do you need?
Half a day can be enough for a quick visit, but a full relaxed day is better if you want lunch, coffee, and time by the waterfront.
If you go by boat, plan around the return timetable before you start exploring.
